“I do something with wood, when wood does something to me”

After exploring many galleries and techniques, in 2000, Antoinetty van den Brink found her great passion: WOOD!
Even though it originates from dead tree, wood is living material! It shrinks, it expands, it turns colour, it is a home for woodworms, woodlice or fungus, it splits, it smells, it is versatile!

What Antoinetty does with words in her poems, she tries to do with her new found medium wood: putting expression and feeling into her sculptures. Emotions seen and experienced from the moment she encounters her piece of wood. Encounters with nature that evoke associations with life. In nature everything is allowed to be different. Nothing is dead or ugly or useless.
Antoinetty collects wood close to her home or at other parts of the world. They all have one thing in common: Antoinetty’s eyes detect it and in her gallery she gives new life to this chosen piece of nature.
Through her pieces of art we too learn to see and experience nature differently.
Every piece of art has a unique and original story to tell: just like trees a story about the past, the present and the future.

By complementing the unique nature of wood, Antoinetty often combines contrasting material – such as lead, plexiglass, feathers – to convey her message. She often stays close to the found material, but creates her own new reality.
By photographing the process and the object, the transformation is emphasized.

Beside creating sculptures and installations of wood, Antoinetty also works – although to a lesser extent – with bronze or plexi. Her photos, always related to nature, try to tickle your imagination.
